What Do My Numbers Say?

6:19 ... 24/4 ... 2 ... 6. When I woke up today ... The most recent Covid-19 numbers for Idaho/Ada County ... my streaks for daily reading on the Bible app ... the numbers for the Rispalje family. Some interesting numbers to be sure. What do they mean? What do they say?

I woke up pretty well rested and my mind was already hungry for information. I turned on my phone and saw the latest news alert about novel coronavirus cases in Idaho and Ada County. As a Christian of 20 years I've read my Bible a lot; as a pastor I'm in the Word a lot for preparing lessons and sermons. I don't always make spiritual reading my first stop of the day. But, for the second day in a row (pretty sad, but I'll take it!) I chose to put the daily news second and instead have God's Word as my first read.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not here to condemn anyone's habits or practice re: spiritual disciplines. I am here to encourage you to take a look at your numbers. What is your focus on? Where is your hope? The news can inform us but it can also induce fear in us. And, during this season we need to know, more than ever, that fear is a liar! That's where the 6 comes in. Even though there is a fair amount of uncertainty and fear, we at Parkview Christian Church are building for the future! The 6 Rispaljes just took a leap of faith and came to us from California. Bryan and I spoke yesterday of what God is going to do in our church and in this valley moving forward. I don't know about you, but I plan to continue building my streaks in the right direction.

Friends, dig in to God's Word! Pray! Dream! Believe that God is God even in the midst of troubling times and frightening days. I love you and I'm praying for you now! :-)
