Q: Why is Easter the most important holiday for Christians?

A: Easter is the most important holiday for Christians for the key reason that it is the time of the year when most Christians remember and celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. The Apostle Paul emphasized the centrality of the resurrection for Jesus Christ’s followers in 1 Corinthians 15. Specifically, he wrote in verse 14 and 19, that: “14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith … 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.” The Christian faith simply doesn’t make sense or have meaning apart from Christ’s defeat of sin, Satan, and death in the resurrection. Easter is a very special time each year when those who confess and follow Christ as Lord celebrate their faith in His resurrection from the dead.

Q: I’m not a Christian. Can I still attend Easter services?

A: Absolutely!  We will unapologetically preach the truth of Jesus’ resurrection at our Easter services.  However, we also strive to create a warm, welcoming environment for everyone - no matter where they are on their journey toward or with Christ.  ALL PEOPLE are welcome at Parkview Christian Church.

Q: How can I experience the meaning of Easter at home?

A: A wonderful way to experience Easter at home is to emphasize the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.  When my wife and I had younger kids, we used a product call “Resurrection Eggs.”  This is a kit with an egg carton, 12 eggs filled with symbols that represent parts of the Easter story, and a book to go along with it.  If your kids are a little bit older, I recommend using the following link (https://bibleproject.com/videos/gospel-luke-5/) from the Bible Project website to experience the story.  Reading and talking about the resurrection can help focus our minds on the truth of Jesus’ victory.  Then, spending some time in prayer thanking Jesus for what He has done is also very important.  Finally, make Easter Sunday a time when you gather with your wider family & community for a meal to celebrate the fact that Jesus has overcome death and has brought us together to know and love Him!

A: There are a few reasons why we celebrate Easter every year.  First, it is a time that comes up each year that is tied with the seasons and with the annual celebration of Passover; for Christians, this helps remind us that Jesus is the true “Passover Lamb.”  Second, the resurrection is the centerpiece of our faith; to emphasize this during a special time each year helps us to keep the truth of the resurrection central.  Finally, it is a reminder each year that no matter what comes against us - pain, suffering, death - Jesus has the ultimate victory and we can trust Him to carry us through anything and everything we may face.
